Now Hiring: Dining Room Manager

John's Restaurant is a busy family style restaurant celebrating 50 Years as a local tradition. John's seats over 200 and features a meeting room and catering services.

John's is seeking an energetic, dynamic, hands on individual to join our team as a Dining Room Manager.

Reporting to the General Manager and Owner you will be responsible for assisting with day to day operations including shift supervision, planning, training, cost controls, marketing, and scheduling. Knowledge of Health and Safety and AGCO laws are required.

Most importantly you will bring outstanding interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and an ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and guests.

Superior guest service is the secret to our success and your attitude and work ethic are critical to your success in this position.

Restaurant management or supervisory experience is required and flexibility to work evenings and weekends. This position is a hands on position requiring "working the floor," seating customers and assisting wherever needed. A typical day may include anything from managing and preparing promotions to hosting, assisting with take out orders, preparing the dining room, assisting servers, and staff training.

John's is open daily from 6 am to 10 pm.

Cook, Lead Cook and/or Night Kitchen Supervisor

(note position may lead to increasing levels of responsibility in the operation of the kitchen)

John's Restaurant is searching for a hands on Cook with experience in quality and cost control, and also has culinary and management skills. The position provides the opportunity for advancement to increasing levels of responsibility for an energetic team player.

This is a long term, full time position for a responsible individual who is looking to join our team for a long term position and help build on the success of John's Restaurant's 45 year history.

The position is primarily afternoon and evenings with occasional day shifts. John's is open 6 am to 10 pm daily.

The cook ultimately ensures that customers at John's enjoy an outstanding experience every time they visit John's. Working with the kitchen team, manager and the dining room manager, some of the responsibilities of this position include include:

Duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain all kitchen work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Prepare menu items quickly, efficiently and accurately.
  • Inspect all plates prior to serving to customer.
  • Store foods in designated areas, following health department rules and regulations regarding temperature control, sanitation, cross contamination and other considerations.
  • Observe and test foods to ensure quality and detect potential quality or safety defects such as off tasting food.
  • Report all food and supply shortages and order requirements to manager immediately.
  • Prepare all necessary side work as necessary.
  • Anticipate busy periods and prepare prior to "rushes".
  • Perform and baking or other cooking assignments as directed by manager, or using your best judgement when appropriate (ie. If low on muffins, prepare more).
  • Substitute or relieve other cooks during rush periods and emergencies.
  • Assist dishwashers if necessary.
  • Supervise the work, efficiency, safety and cost control of dishwashers when other manager is not present.
  • Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times, especially when in the direct view of customers.
  • Work with all other employees in a friendly and cordial way.
  • Provide guidance to dining room staff on items including ingredients, preparation, expediting and general assistance.
  • All other tasks as assigned

Guest Satisfaction

  • Regularly monitoring and evaluating service levels and standards using guest and employee feedback
  • Finding opportunities to maximize guest satisfaction.
  • Developing plans for continuous improvement Cost Control
  • Maintaining control over variable costs including food Costs, material costs, labour costs, repair and maintenance costs
  • Being responsible for kitchen opening and closing procedures
  • Promoting a highly skilled workforce by ensuring employees are given the appropriate on-the-job training and direction
  • Working collaboratively with employees to ensure good operating practices are adhered to, including Safe Food Handling, HACCP and WHMIS
